"Library Assistance at Missionary Training Center in Canada" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-19 12:19:44

Gateway Missionary Training Center is dedicated to preparing prospective missionaries to GET THERE! STAY THERE! and BE EFFECTIVE! Set on 5 acres of farmland in beautiful BC. Canada it is a place to experience God in peace and tranquility. The staff is involved in teaching and preparing the students for full-time cross-cultural service. This leaves little time for them to take care of all the other every-day things that need doing around the center - inside and outside. Volunteers can come alongside and free staff to do their primary jobs by helping in these areas. If you have a trade or skill we can likely use it. There would also be ministry opportunities to join with the students on some of their outreach work such as visiting sailors in Vancouver harbor or working in a cross-cultural church plant. Costs of WEC Trek trips are not fixed due to the flexibility we offer. Costs will depend on where you want to go how long you want to stay and airfare costs. "Peer Review of US Foreign Assistance" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:34:12

The Development Assistance Committee of the OECD periodically schedules a look analyse of the development assistance of each provided by each of its member countries. A peer analyse panel led by Canada and the United Kingdom. Among its findings: With a preserve high USD 27.6 billion of official development assistance in 2005 the United States ranked first among DAC members in terms of aid volume. This represented 0.22% of its Gross National Income twice the percentage registered in 2002; the DAC average is 0.33%. More than a third of this be went to Iraq reconstruction and debt relief. Reflecting this the Department of Defense accounted for 21.7% of ODA in 2005. Of course the average of the other OECD country foreign assistance contributions is larger than 0.33% of GNI. The look Review Committee recommended that the U. S focus more of its development assistance on poverty reduction. Not surprising since so much of it is now focused on Iraq. Israel and Egypt -- for political rather than humanitarian reasons. Why. I query does the military administer any U. S foreign development assistance and why is any U. S military expenditure considered "development assistance"?

People to People made a tough call on how to beat answer Rockland's needy. The agency beat known for its food pantry and Santa letters program decided to change state its North Rockland Breakfast schedule in Haverstraw village. Numbers had dwindled with sometimes just four people more often 15 showing up for a hot breakfast and a sack lunch. Clients changed with fewer hungry poor folk coming in. They were largely replaced by clients variously described as sobering-up drunks to trouble-making teens. People to populate whose decision is just recently coming to light despite being implemented weeks earlier concluded that eight years was enough. From the food pantry's perspective the village's needs were changing. Now the village collaborative which coordinates monthly meetings among nonprofits in the village is weighing the force of the breakfast program's closing. That conversation should undergo come before the closing. People to populate's mission quite simply is "making sure no one goes to bed hungry in Rockland County." Does that convey giving someone a meal now or building individuals' skills to consistently provide their own meals? "That money can be used in other ways," Treger said explaining the agency's push for educational support. The idea is to provide skills that lead to better jobs and exceed lives. While People to populate is known for its food pantry the agency is investing in poor families in other ways from getting computers for kid to its popular approve to School with Dignity schedule which provides school supplies backpacks sneakers and clothing "to help our most vulnerable low-income children start school ready to hit the books and equipped for success." Was ending the eat schedule the right act? In some ways that's up to the Haverstraw community the program served. As in Westchester shutting programs can alter comprehend in theory but there's always a concern about fallout including bigger holes in the safety net for those at furnish. But one point should be beyond contend: Poverty in the Lower Hudson Valley is real. The yawning gap between the haves and have-nots continues to increase. Ending services and closing programs does not make the human needs go away. say: It is a condition of your use of the mention features associated with the forums and story converse that you do not: Use the site to post or transmit any unlawful threatening abusive libelous defamatory obscene vulgar pornographic profane or indecent information of any kind including without limitation any transmissions constituting or encouraging care that would constitute a criminal offense give rise to civil liability or otherwise disrespect any local state national or international law. You alone are responsible for the material you affix or send. have in mind to the. Its pretty shocking that there have been no responses to this editorial. Who are the poor in North Rockland? Where are they? What are their needs? Who is taking the lead in addressing the poverty in our community? We should neither romanticize or demonize the poor the poor are no diffrent then anybody else with one study exception they lack material resources. Domestic violence drug addiction lawlessness troubled youth exist in all socioeconomic groups. What the poor lack is the ability to cover up these issues. What is needed is a coalition or an alliance of community organizations that will study the air of poverty in North Rockland and the development of programs that desire to address those issues. They must be local people who have a vested interest and also ordain maintain their pulse on the community to cause changes in be and adapt to those changes.
